A night at the Times Hotel

thinking that i was almost the end of the school holiday, i've decided to bring my family to stay in one of the newest hotel here in Brunei, the Times Hotel. Well, actually that was not the plan. We were planning to stay in the Gadong Centrepoint hotel, but then when i called them, the receptionist told me that the whole Gadong will have electricity interruptions starting 2200 onwards. Since this problem was unavoidable, i moved on to "un"planned B.

The promotion was quite decent. They offered BND88 for standard room. But since i had no idea how this standard room looked like, i've requested to preview the rooms first, then i will decide there which room i want to choose, whether the standard or superior (which worth BND108). The difference is quite significant especially in terms of room space. if i want the superior room with balcony, then i need to pay BND19 more.

As people always said, first impression will last and it also gives the general idea. Frankly, they were not doing quite well in giving the best first impression to me.

Well, firstly the parking space. i was quite happy since they reserved some spaces for their customers, and my parking space was right infront of the lobby door. Good! hehe...also, the bellboy was quite pleasant and polite. Good! The lift is brand new with touch-screen buttons. Good! When we were inside the room, as usual, we check around the room to see what they were offering. Coffee table? Checked and considered standard. Toilet and bathroom? Checked except no bathtub. And one more thing. the floor tiles are very slippery when they are wet. All tiles are slippery when they are wet you said? Trust me, this ones are very very slippery as if there were a layer of algae (gelugut nya orang Brunei) so i need to tip-toe when walking inside the bathroom. Next? Main lighting system? checked and still kind of old system. Room design? Checked and the design kinda reminded me of Sungei Wang Plaza hotel in Kuala Lumpur. This was the time when the bellboy came pressed the door bell, appeared infront of me. Why? To hand me the tv remote. okay...so, what channel were they offering? by the way, the tv is flat, slim tv by Philips. Impressive. I pressed the remote button, no response. I was wondering why...My wife asked me to bang the remote once, so I did it. still no response. You want to know what the problem is? Oh, you dont want to know, trust me. The remote...had no battery! Oh gosh! Then, we were like wanted to put our bottles of water into the mini fridge (we assumed it was there). When we opened the door...nothing!!! no mini fridge? What's the use of this wardrobe (is it correct)? So i ran to the receptionist to tell these things and get the battery installed. I asked the bellboy "mana fridge nya ah? andang nada kah?" his reply? "hmm...ada kali nanti ih" I mean, what does he mean by "ada kali nanti?" Back to my room, i pressed the button on the remote again...yes, it is working. channel 1...channel 2...channel 3...until channel 19...all of them showing blue screen. Luckily i brought my own lappy, so my kids won't be bored.

What's the point here? The point is, personally, i don't think they were even prepared well to open the hotel to the public. for BND108, i think the centrepoint hotel could offer better services just for the deluxe room BND100. I've been to a number of hotels, budget ones, 2 stars, 3 stars, 4 stars and even 5 stars. Even the budget hotel were serving on par with their reputation, and i have no complain about that, but this one? Bogey...double bogey...or even triple bogey. I am not condemning here, just criticizing and voice out my experience which is supposed to be a nice one, and turned out to be a not so nice one. come on, what's the use of remote without the battery, and what's the use of slim tv without the channel installed. btw, did i mention that the telephone in my room also does not work?

of course, not everything is bad about them, just majority of them are bad (to me). the swimming pool is considered good, the pricing is quite okay for most people (i don't really recommend the room+balcony ones. for one, they are digging more money and for two, the view/scenery? What's there to watch? Padang Kebajikan? It is even blocked by another building!). The staffs were quite friendly (though some of the bellboys need more training), the food for breakfast is nice and my fav part? The shop! they are just downstairs! yay!!!

so, the verdict? sorry to say this, but out of 5 stars, i will just give it a 3.

End of year review

today is 19th of December 2010, almost entering the final week of 2010. a lot has happened throughout this year, and most of my plans and resolution i made for this year has been accomplished (of course some did not make it).

for first, i managed to organize and lead Digital Media Club 2010 successfully, alone. i actually got all the freedom to lead the members just how i like it. Surprisingly, this club was given a lot of challenging assignments and the expectations were kind of above par the ability of the members. however, i encouraged them to try and do their very best to finish the assignments. Yup, they did it. They entered competitions organized by ministry, departments etc and some made it to the final. They actually made me very proud of them. HOWEVER, what disappoint me was, their efforts were not even recognized and appreciated. NONE of these achievements were even mentioned in any assemblies, and the most shocking ones? During the CCA closing. I was giving the name of the top 3 students for this club, and their name was not even in the certificate. What the heck? Human errors? Nah, I would rather say... they don't give a damn about these girls! or this club! If it was for the sake of the club alone, i wouldn't mind, but come on, these girls were expecting themselves to be walking proud on the stage, then it turned out that their name was not even there? This made me think, what else should I do to make this club and these girls' achievements stand out amongst all. That one I have updated to be in my next year's resolution. But really, im not blaming those from the CCA's sections (they had the proof that these girls' names were included in the list), it's those responsible on printing the certs. Ugh!

The second one? new person coming into our life. Yup, i'm talking about our second baby, Dk Siti 'Aisya Qaisarah. She was born on 1st Syawal 1431H / 9th September 2010. First time in my life, i spent the first raya and takbir in the hospital. at that time, at around 1915, i was in the hospital canteen, then in the tv, there was this announcement about the sightings of the moon. When that person said "dengan ini, anak bulan Syawal adalah sabit dilihat...", all people inside the canteen still remained silent. i was like "what the? don't they understand it?" But when that person said "...1 syawal jatuh pada hari esok..." suddenly all of these people were shouting, screaming, jumping etc. so, my conclusion was "yeah, they do don't understand" hehe... and exactly at 2335 that night, our princess was born. details of that incident i will include in the updated page of 'Aisya's page.

The third one. This year, i've made a big investment in my entire life by purchasing this "baby" called Canon 550D, while letting go of my old trusted Canon 350D. What's the big deal? A lot! First thing, this 550D (also known as T2i in US) is hybrid, meaning it do still pictures AND movies. not just standard movies, but High Definition movies. I've researched a lot before finally deciding to buy it. Still pictures are not the ones that made me interested because frankly, i'm not into photography. It was the movies option that made me tempted to buy it. With it, I can record all important events in my life in both still pix and movies mode, all in just one gadget. But what made me giggles sometimes was, the people in my school still see me as one of the photographers in the school. Thank you very much and i felt honoured on that, but i need to emphasize here...I am a Videographer, not photographer. Okay, nothing serious here. It's just i am more into videography than photography, so do not misunderstood k! Cheers!!!

Yesterday the second CCA session of our school was held. Just like planned, I spent the time to congratulate our members for making the previous a success, and yes indeed, the efforts had made the school looked higher and expect something more from our club. Well done girls!

Also, I took the opportunity to appoint some members with certain big positions. I mean it, BIG positions, which means they have a bigger responsibilities. Unlike last year, I tend to rotate the jobs (such as photographers, journalists, reporters, editors, proof-readers) among the members so that each one of them will get a maximum experience during their stay in the club. Except for these positions of course.

This morning, I was taking my wife and son to do some simple shopping, buying groceries and "pampers". As usual, we tuned in to 93.3 NurIslam FM. That's when the DJ played this song, originally sang by the great Raihan, but now re-singed by the wonderful Siti Nurhaliza. Not really a song, more to spiritual tune (nasyeed) called Ya Rasulullah. Of course, any song by Raihan is very nice to hear, but then when this was "refreshed" by Siti Nurhaliza, it became more and more touching.

Although I was driving, I started to visualize, imagine and going deep into the tune. I was able to see how the clip/video would look like if I am to produce them. Suddenly, there was this tear coming out from my eyes. I was like...wow, I am really into this tune. Now, why was there tears coming out? I was recalling all the times me and my wife spent last year, visiting our beloved prophet. Maybe I was a bit emotional, but for real...I do miss those moments. People was telling how hard it would be to visit our prophet, but then when it was our turn, it turned out that everything was so simple, easy and smooth. Even the guard, who was very rash to other people, was very gentle to us and letting us stay for several seconds infront of the tomb, saying our prayer and sending regards. Even in the Raudhah was very simple. I was able to do my prayers in there with ease without any pushings and pullings from other people.

Now about this song. Once more, tears were coming down without the knowledge of my wife (she was sitting at the back with my son), because of visualizing the very touching scenes corresponding to the tune. Maybe I will share this visuals that I see with other people, by producing the clip. Moreover, the Maulidur Rasul is just around the corner, so I think this would be the perfect timing. So to members of DMC2010, be prepared. I got one BIG ASSIGNMENT for you all!

In the spirit of challenging...again

Just did this conversation with my wife. I just cannot believe it that, without realizing it, I got this spirit of challenging back again in myself, the spirit that I used to have during my glory days. yup, i'm not making this up. I used to love challenges and challenge people around me for something better.

A little bit of history. When I was very young, I really don't like people around me to achieve something better than what I have achieved. It was like, if that person was successful, I will find a way no matter what, to steal that thunder from that person, so that I will be better than them. Okay, now do not get misunderstood. When I said no matter what, I meant in terms of efforts and studying, and of course not using any dirty tricks. Which means, I will increase my efforts, study harder and harder so that when my friends/teachers/family members talked about the ability of that successful person, I would be able to say "no big deal, I can do what he/she can do too" with all the pride. I still remember, when this friend of mine was able to memorize Ayatul Kursi and showed off to me, I then said to him "I can do that within half an hour!", then believe it or not, yup I did it! The point is, I want to be able to do what other people can do, and beyond.

Back to the present. When I voiced out my feelings about the challenges I faced lately at work to my wife, she simply said "I know you do it, and even better. I have known you, what you can do and all you abilities since our secondary school time." And that was the time I realized that, I have been missing that spirit, what I called the Challenging spirit. I don't recall since when did I lose it, after the O-level maybe? So, how do I know it is back? I don't really know how to express them in words, I just know it because I can feel the "heat" in my heart again.

So, what's next? I have a lot in my mind now, and slowly jotting them down on this virtual piece of paper. I am planning something bigger for this year and next year. Too much ahead of time? Of course, this is what they called planning. And yes, I always believe in fair competition, so if anybody would like to compete, then compete fairly. I am still felt pissed off by this some person who used some dirty and cheeky tricks so that everybody would look up on him/her. May Allah show this person the right path.

the video that i made especially to promote my club, DMC2010. the idea was coming quite late (on thursday while the promo took place on saturday), so IMO, not bad lah. once more, i would like to thank these girls featured in the video, Amal, Adibah and Jalilah for coming in short notice to make the video and interview a success. not forgetting to Azimah, Mao and Rabi for spreading the words. so, what's next? i have a lot of projects in my pocket now that i have the handycam, but still i needed some more gadgets to make proper video, and movie. looking forward for the new DMC intake although i am expecting some familiar faces. wish me all the best!

i guess it is still not too late to greet my little boy a happy birthday, although it was like few weeks ago already. been very busy that i don't have that valuable time to spend updating this blog. just some sharings to be made. on his birthday, me and my wife had decided to take Asyfa to the "newly opened" Jerudong Park, where he spent some times playing some of his favourites, especially the slide. of course the father joined him too, inda mau rugi kali ah. haha...quite a treat for him since we get to wave to HM who happened to be there. well, not really there lah, melintas jua ganya, might be back from one of his palace, Izzah. Then at home, a birthday cake awaited him. he was really excited, since it was his first time to see cake with lit candles. he might be thinking, maybe lah, "wah, ada api magik atas kek" that he ran around the cake like 7 times or more, macam tawaf. haha... Asyfa, we all love you wholeheartedly. semoga menjadi anak yang hebat dan berjaya, dunia dan akhirat. amin

Finally got the time to update this blog of mine. Not my intention to just leave it like this, just don't have the time, that's all. okay, so what do I have in store to share? Actually a lot, but I will just type in and share what I remember at this moment.

A lot of things happened this year, to me, my wife, Asyfa and even at the working place. I've gone through the most challenging moments in my life this year, yet I survived, thanx to the support of my beloved family and also colleagues around me. Asyfa, without realizing it, has grown up like in a blink of the eyes. My works in the school still not being fully recognized (and worst, not appreciated) but I remained silent, because I am still waiting for the right moment to voice out my real opinion and reveal my true self. I always believe in my motto of "my best is yet to come, so when is yours?" I keep on observing and watching people around me trying their best to impress their superiors, and even worse, some people even "used" other people for their own gainings. Owh very cruel huh...

At some time, I did try at some extent to impress my own boss and superior, but the thing is, maybe luck is not mine. When I was doing my best, none of them were around, however they will be around when I was not at my best. In other words, at the wrong place at the wrong time. Really, I was kinda felt disappointed with the situation since this thing seems to repeat again and again. I remember like it was yesterday, when I was given the opportunity to "reveal" myself by this assignment, this other person seems to steal my thunder, so at the end of the day, his work is recognized while mine is... you know, the opposite.

Sometimes, I felt that this fate I am having is not quite fair. However, I tend to think of the positives, saying "maybe in the future, luck will be on my side..." so I just move on, being patient and just listen to all of the critics. One time, I was doing this assignment in the very last minute (well, I was given only 20 hours to design and submit some kind of works), so I worked very hard for those 20 hours while "stealing" quality family times, and even stayed up very late (frankly, I only slept for 3 hours that night), then when the end product was finished, it turned out that it was other people's works! Owh, thank you very much, this is what I got from all those sacrifices I gave. Thank you

happy anniversary

two important events had taken place last week, on the 6th and 7th of August. First, on the 6th August, it was our wedding anniversary, the 3rd anniversary. i was not able to celebrate just like what we did in the previous years because i had to attend the Isra' Mikraj celebration at the school.

the second is on the 7th August. what about it? it was Asyfa's 19th monthsary (haha...bahasa "canggih" ni). again, he has shown a lot of improvements. his new hobby? hiking! yes, he loves it when we brought him to the Tasik Lama. He will start to run from the main entrance to the waterfall area, non-stop. kami yang sebagai "bodyguard" ani lah yang angih2.

last saturday, during the morning CCA session, we taught the girls of DMC jr to do the light painting. as usual, some were enthusiastic, excited while some not really interested. doesn't matter anyway. i personally like the attitudes of the third group, where these girls were very excited to do this thing. "wow, this is something new sir, can we really do it?" although they didn't bring their compact camera (forgotten i suggest). well, some of the pix above were the product of the enthusiastic 3rd group. and to make it really interesting, we challenged them to create something much better for the next CCA session.

btw, all this time we thought this light painting is only possible with the dslr (oh this is so embarassing), however it is NOT! you can do it also using the compact digital camera. How to do it?

well, light painting is only possible if the camera have the ability to delay the shutter speed by few seconds. of course only the dslr can do that by setting the shutter time to few seconds or even better, just use the bulb. so how is it possible in the compact digital camera since there is no such thing as manual exposure as well as shutter timing setting? very easy. go find the mode in your camera that says "FIREWORKS". yes, that will do the trick. because in order to capture the fireworks, the compact camera will do their own auto setting so that you can capture all those lightings from the fireworks.

however the only drawbacks from this mode is, the shutter timing will vary depending on the camera models. we did some tests with the students' compact camera, and we found out that some camera only let the shutter to open for 2 seconds (if im not mistaken, that's sony cybershot), others let 5 seconds and the longest is 10 seconds exposure. try it!

salam to all people who got the time to visit my blog. straight to the point.
semasa cuti penggal persekolahan kedua yang baru saja lalu, me and my wife telah berkesempatan untuk mengerjakan ibadah umrah. Alhamdulillah, semuanya berjalan lancar. the flight is not a direct one, we had some transits in singapore for about 5 hours and doha, qatar for another 9 hours, then baru tah sampai ke jeddah. dari jeddah tarus naik bas menuju ke kota cahaya, madinah al-munawarah, again it took another 8 hours to reach the destination. only at madinah al-munawarah then we had the chance to rest since iatah tempat hotel kami tu, hotel Dallah Taibah.

in singapore, we arrived at terminal 2, then kami tarus ke terminal 3 using the skytrain since our next flight will be using that terminal. sekali masa di terminal 3, ada tia pekerja atu memblok kami. ia tanya dengan konpiden, then senyum dengan konpiden, memberitahu dengan konpiden yang flight kami pakai terminal 1. so, kami pun jalan lah beramai2 ke terminal 1. sekali sudah di sana, check schedule arah tv, nada pun flight kami kana mention. pekerja atu pun bertanya tia dengan konpiden lagi arah kami, "ur flight is via dubai right?" Astaghfirullah...cubaan pertama ni kali. nyaring udah kami cakap arahnya VIA DOHA, he even took our ticketing schedule, nampak kali ah DOHA, not DUBAI. so pekerja ani pun again, dengan konpidennya, lead our way, all the way back to terminal 3, JALAN KAKI LAGI TU! diri ani inda pulang, dangan bah, banyak orang veteran. ada one of them tarus becakap, keluar perambahan Brunei tarus, "awu, kitani ani macam pusu mengiring ih" haha...me and my wife tarus sakit parut menahan ketawa, macam tarus dapat imagine macamana pusu swimming in groups.
i forgot to bring my tripod along, so i just timed my camera, 100 iso, 2 sec, raw. cantek (in my personal view lah), as you can see, ada people standing still, ada some people moving.

astagh, di sini rupanya gambar di kota cahaya ani. hehe...yup, the pix above were taken in Madinah al-Munawarah. the first two are the famous Masjid Nabawi, where setiap ibadah di dalam masjid ani bersamaan dengan 1000x ibadah di masjid tempat lain. dan di dalam masjid inilah juga terletaknya Maqam Rasulullah dan taman syurga Raudhah (correct me if i am wrong).

these three veterans, Hj Taib, Hj Ahmad and Hj Madni were my best pals all the way from Brunei to Mekah. very nice to know them.

It was actually my wife's idea to have a photoshoot session for Asyfa, wearing his "mandi berlawat" suit, which fits him perfectly now. just like zadm commented, "macam pendekar mustar". hehe...

some of his developments. he now understands a lot of simple words, upgraded his favourite cartoon show now to "non-baby cartoons" such as Pokemon. Also from our observation, he now knows when to play alone and when to make us join his play, he can stack some blocks and group his toys according to their colours. hmm...apa lagi ah? i don't remember just yet, but when i do, i will update this post, insya-Allah.

finally got the time...huh... ok, Asyfa is in his 15th month now, and he is about to turn 16 month in this coming few days. just some comment on what he had achieved in his 15th "monthsarry". hehe... ehem, well he now totally independent in walking. to add icing to the cake, he is now able to run! which is very very tiring to chase. his milk teeth set is almost complete. his favourite game is something that has to do with balls (soccer, hockey, basketball, golf). his favourite hobby? teasing us of course. and just to make he is not bored when we are not around, we bought him fishes in the aquarium, which he likes to see a lot. he likes to mime us reading books and papers, and he made sure (as usual) that he has got something to do almost all the time. inda kan mau teranah, iatah ngalih nguyung sana sini. of all, he loves to play with us.

a lot of ideas keep on visiting my brain since the first day of the year. ideas on what to showcase in my next video project, on helping DMC, and more importantly ideas on how to shoot a better pix of asyfa. well, that's too private to say, so i will just share what i have for the school project then.

i was thinking of shooting a time elapse on the activities happening around the school, such as students and teachers coming to school, the cross country, students storming the canteen during recess time etc. well, i actually did it. maybe some students remember the handycam that i purposely put on the sidewalk during the cross country, at the finishing line, at the selling booths. when i previewed it, i was excited to see them. then, out of nowhere, few minutes later, ALL of the captured moments were gone! i felt like screaming NOOOOOOOOOO during that time, but i did manage to control it. and with that, i officially announce that I HATE MY OWN DVD-HANDYCAM.

regardless of the obstacle, i will still try to do this thing. i will make sure it happen with the help of another handycam that i borrowed from the school. the only problem with this thing is, i cannot transfer the captured scenes into my computer. not to worry, i will figure that out.

oh ya, i will post the sample of the time elapse done by a pro later.

bought this phone for my wife. well, it was quite a challenge for me to choose what phone to purchase. as usual, i'm quite fussy in purchasing gadgets, since i always want the thing to be worth the money and has unique features.

firstly, i have limited the budget to below 400. secondly, i have selections from nokia to sony ericsson, but then i ended up choosing LG. why? take a look at the commercial video, it really had convinced me to do so. really, i was so lured to the features this phone has. what's not to like? touchscreen media (limited features though), nice and relaxing neon touch navigation that come with very nice xylophone sounds, tempered glass scratch proof, carbon fibre casing, 5mp high quality camera and divx video capture, 3.5g technology. I mean, wow! and all that for BND3++ ? you got to be kidding me.

i played around the handphone and yes, i am quite satisfied, indeed very satisfied with the phone. it almost imitates the Iphone in some way with the motion-sensitive feature. really, with the auto-rotating feature and the gaming system. they works like nintendo wii and Iphone, where we are NOT playing the game by pressing the buttons. Instead, we interact with the phone itself such as lean them left and right, shake it, rotate it etc. quite impressive.

when it comes to camera and video, yes again i am quite satisfied with the feature, especially the video capturing feature, where you can set the phone to capture normally, in high speed motion or slow motion. see the promo video yourself especially in the youtube where this 2 people review the phone by testing all the features.

It's all about football aka soccer

it is actually fun to see how people reacted when their favourite team got the results they expected. some very emotional, some very sarcastic, some very sad and even cried, a lot of feelings actually. This goes true especially for teams that have historical rivalry, such as the four EPL giants (hint: 3 in reds, 1 in blue), where people start to nag and tease each other. Even some were "over-teasing" and create another rivalry in themselves. What I mean, from friend turning to foe, just because of football.

Well, I used to feel the same way. I love and support one of the EPL giants in red. When they win, I felt happy and start to tease my friends, but when they lose, I would feel down for the day, mood swing maybe, bad mood or whatsoever. This continues until when I was in form 3. I have a friend who support the rival of my team. That time, my team had beaten his fav team, so I teased him by saying "congratz". Know what? He started to yell at me, becoming more emotional and picked a fight. I mean, what the heck? Since then, we didn't talk to each other, hang around like we used to, and yes, I officially just lost a friend of mine. To make it worst, he even started to pick a fight with me if he got the chance, and will tell the untrue stories about me to others so that they will also hate me. Ohh...and that's all because of football.

So since that day, I started to analyze, why do we become like this? Yes, because of football. I observed other people, they fight each other, argue with each other also because of football. And the question is, WHAT DO WE GET? The team win, what do we get? The team lose, what do we get? respect? Pride?

Since then, I remained discreet whether my team win, drew or lost. I don't want that experience of losing a friend because of football to repeat again. When people asked me, what is my favourite team, I will tell them honestly. Again, if they want to say something bad about the team, okay, carry on. As if I get the credit.

When I was in Maktab Duli, a lot of my friends there and people that I know supported the two big red rivals. okay...one time that one red won the treble, there were flags, towels bearing the logo were waved and showed off. They also took this chance to tease my team, saying it was a Loser Team and their team is the greatest in the whole world. Haha...I was like, okay, I might agree with you. Guess what? they were surprised with my reaction. They went like "inda ko marah kah team mu kana ucap?" My response? "Shh...team ku mana mendangar" Day to day, they came to me and tease me, until they got fed up. "Boring ih, nada reaction ko ani. At least, rasa tercabar kah apa" And I said, "Aku sokong saja, mun manang Alhamdulillah, mun kalah pun biar tia. Inda jua ku ampit piala sama medal yang dorang manang atu"

Back in UBD, when the team I support won a treble, those people again came to me. Instead of saying congratz or whatsoever, they again said the bad thing about the team. "Kalok tu kamu manang ah..." I remained silent again, while my other friends started their defensive arguments. Haha...

Since then, my friends respected my views and decisions of not getting involved in these "fanatics" thingy. Really, I don't want to get involved in those stupid arguments about whose team is better. I simply don't want that experience of losing a friend to repeat again. When people started a conversation and discussion on football, I simply listen and agree with ALMOST ALL of the points brought forward. Want to tease me on my favourite team? My pleasure...until you get bored. Hehe...

Last but not least, I do respect other's views on this, so I expected that they will also respect mine. Whatever it is, this is my own personal view, not meant to offend anybody.

here are the two videos that i had directed and created myself, exclusively for the CCA closing ceremony of the school. well, nobody actually "forced" me to do it, just kind of my own initiative. hmmm...the idea actually came when i was in-charge of the Chess Club back in 2007. the girls in the club were fantastic (i mean, they were very good after the training), then one of them came to me. "sir, what would be our performance for the closing ceremony? it would be boring if we have nothing to show. just look at the other club." then i was like, yup, she is right. so that afternoon, while they were battling each other in the tournament that i created, i took the opportunity to do some brainstorm. came in video, came in harry potter, came in the soundtrack. and that's it, all the idea came in a go. and that was the start of the CCA warrior series.

my purpose of posting this video here? not to show off, just some of the students came to ask me, "sir, mana video sir ari atu? kami kan liat lagi. apa cerita sambungannya?" so here they are.

now, comment on these two videos. to be frank, i like the storyline of the first episode more and love the opening scene of the episode two. some find the first one funny, and some said the second one is much more funnier. i have no comment on that. as for the third episode, which is due this year (insya-Allah), i will try to feature a full video, not static story just like these two videos. PROVIDED, i have the handycam (again, this is always the bottleneck) and the brilliant ideas come at the right time. actually, ada plang dah idea and storyline, just need to refine it.

and yes, this is one among the reason why i kind of like and love japanese culture and production. they always come up with new and fresh ideas, and just like this advert here. it is supposed to be a serious advert for advertising their own station, but hey, they might think like that idea is very lame. why not make fun of it? believe me, the more viewers enjoy the show, the more loyal they will be.

he is today 1 year few days old already. still learning to walk by himself, but quite confident when trying to stand up. at this stage, Asyfa knows how to do some basic things such as putting his toys into the box. satu perkara lah yang buat diri ani geram. kalau asyfa umbang pakaian, i will threaten him by saying "asyfa, babah bagitau mama ni ah", still he continued to do that thing. but when i said "mama, asyfa umbang pakaian...", Asyfa will quickly crawl to another place, and at the same time his mouth will continuously said "babah babah babah..." as if trying to tell his mother that it was me who did that naughty acts. aiya...haha...

been quite a while since i updated this blog. been quite a while since i pressed my finger on that precious 350d trigger. bee quite a while since i remained passive in this cyber world. haha...apakan?

well, really, quite some time now i have rested my 35od from doing its job. just need to rest my mind a little bit, looking for some more fresh ideas by reading and viewing a lot of magazines that might ring a bell. also, to make things interesting (for me), i am still undecided what to do with my allocated gadget budget, whether to purchase a PS3 (which is reviewed by quite a number of my colleagues as a no-regret purchase ever) or a DSLR flash 430EX II (i need it to shoot much better pix)

today, i was supposed to help my colleague with his film project, however i can't. Asyfa is not feeling quite well, so me and my wife took him to the Borneo Clinic @ Sengkurong. Asyfa seems to have forgotten about that place that he cried. kesian...pikirnya tempat baru kali bah, iatah macam takut tia. when the doctor was checking his chest, Asyfa was like...apa ni nya orang Brunei, menala. we were very scared, ia menala sampai pucat mukanya. as soon as the checking routine was done, i asked my wife to take Asyfa into the car while i waited for the medicine.

as for school, well, been almost two weeks since the school reopened. i don't know, but i feel like never better. i felt like my confidence is quite and much higher than my previous 3 years in the school. today, i was supposed to prepare some teaching and learning aids for my men 3 students, and yes as usual, i forgot to prepare them. so i used another alternative, and surprisingly, the students seems to enjoy the lesson and understand them well.

lastly, what's your new year resolution? as for me, a simple one. i want to change from days to days, so that the today's me is much more better than yesterday's me. insya-Allah

Alhamdulillah...it's like in a blink of the eyes, Asyfa has grown up infront of our eyes. In about a week, he will be 1 year. Barely got the time to update this blog to report his development. What I can say in short, his improvements are very obvious. He learnt a lot of newly founded games by himself that he enjoyed doing it, his crawling speed has increased (banar...nalih kan nguyung kadang2), he even started to imitate the behaviour of the people he observed, mumbling even more and what I personally like, he seems to understand what we said to him.

newly founded games? see pix below. he loves to play with this car, even making the sound of the engine by himself by doing that mumbling noise. one time we brought him to the arcade to play that electric car. when I said "ok Asyfa, time to go" he then cried, aloud! hehe...

PMB 2008 results

i know this might be kind of old already. i went to the school today to submit a document when the principal called me. i thought like there might be something wrong, and yes it was. she complained to me about one of my form 3 students, the only one who failed the PMB 2008. i was kinda shocked, since i didn't know that the results were out already. according to her, our school was very close to defeat the "star school" of our country. actually, we are on par in terms of quantity, both school with only one student failed the exam, but in terms of percentage, our school is defeated by a very small margin. we are tied with 99 percent, only the point something that makes the difference. haiya...

actually, the principal was not mad or angry or something like that. it's just, we are really really close, for the first time, to make our ranking on top of the table, of not because of this student. it showed that the quality in the school is improving from time to time. so it will not be a surprise, during registration later (for form 4), there would be an increase in demand from parents to register their daughter(s) in the school. antah ah, barangkali jua lah ah, ikut pengalaman masa menjaga registration dulu bah, sampai ada yang kan kelahi pasal kami inda mau menerima anak dorang masuk. haha...btw, i will leave that to the admin.

what a relaxing holiday...haha, boleh lah, rehat dari memikirkan keraja saja. i spent most of this valuable times babysitting our baby, Asyfa. looks like he knows that we are having holiday, so he also take this opportunity to be more manja to us. by the way, he is now reaching his 11th month of age. i will post his pix later, insya-Allah.

by the way, whenever Asyfa is sleeping, me and my wife spent the time watching movies that i have downloaded. just to share with u out there, here are the list of movies that we have watched.

just like i've stated in the chatbox, i was about to lose this blog because i cannot access my google account since it kept on refusing my password. after several attempts to get help from the admin, i finally was able to reset my password. then i started to check my gmail account. you know what? shocking!!! my account had been hacked and being used by someone out there. this guy changed my password (and that is why i cannot access my google account) and even changed the login name as tuah80. what a lame name by the way.

this guy also took the opportunity to access my paypal account. luckily, my account only had $3 remaining. thank god.

so now, i took all the precautions steps by installing all possible security softwares and addons on my browser so that this will not happen again in the future. and to readers out there, i hereby assure you that i am not losing and/or closing this blog.

it's been quite a while since i watched drama series from japan. if i'm not mistaken, the last series that i watched was Tantei Gakuen Q or Detective School Q. both me and my wife like to watch the japanese series due to several "attractive" reasons, such as cute actors and actresses, and the most important is the storyline.

i remember how i got motivated to become a teacher after i read GTO manga, then watched the anime and followed by its very own drama series. of course some of the ideas in the story are mainly imaginary, but most of them are logic and could be applied to my real life as a teacher. Huuu, Takeshi Sorimachi is still my idol, i even got his albums which i purchased in the pirate shop known as "kadai komm*****". After GTO, i watched With Love with Hasegawa Takeshi played by Yutaka Takenouchi, the story about a girl who fell in love with this guy who mistakenly has sent a very romantic music to her email. I think that could be the beginning of e-love (you know what i mean), since they only know each other in the internet world, when in the real life, they hate each other. I couldn't stand it when another guy took advantage on the girl, Amane Murakami by impersonating as HaTa san. I felt like kil***g that guy if he exists. haha...emo jua... by the way, a good ending.

next on the list was Beach Boys, a hilarious series being played by my three idols, Takeshi Sorimachi, Yutaka Takenouchi and ...what's the girl's name again? aiya...i forgot (and i dare to call her my idol?) Ryoko Hirosue!!! haha...now i remember. also a very good story, kinda touching towards the end, of course i didn't cry. what do you think i am? emo? haha...you bet. (wiping tears with my sleeve)

ada banyak lagi lah ceta lawa dari jepun ni, such as those i mentioned above, GTO, With Love, Beach Boys, Power Office Girls, to name a few. just recently, me and my wife watched this series called Hanazakari no Himitachi e, about a girl who disguised as a boy to enter an all-boy school to meet a guy and help him to get his confidence back as high jumper. i mean, kenapa ia bekarih banar sampai kan disguise lagi? kenapa ia inda bejumpa tarus straight forward? that's all can be answered if you watch this 12-episodes series. quite new, 2007 punya release.

okay, i think that is all lah. kalat mata dah ni, asyfa and his mama pun nyaman tdo dah. now it is my turn to sleep. ja...

here we are...another report on asyfa. he is becoming more and more active, start to eat some solid food such as baby biscuits and apples since he got that few milk teeth already. people who seldom see him will realize how he has changed. his crawling skills also has improved a lot, nya orang Brunei melipas tia udah. just like my colleague said, there will be a time when he will upgrade himself in viewing the tv programme that he likes to watch, and yes it is true. before, he likes to watch mickey mouse a lot, now he will stay infront of the tv, watching not only mickey. he is watching and laugh to Dibo, Elmo and his favourite, Grover from Play with me sesame. he will also laugh when i imitate Grover's trademark quotation, "HELLO EVERY BODY!!!"

yesterday, when me and my wife were going shopping, i met one of my former students, ummi. i taught her class when i was doing my teaching praxis at smpaphm in 2005, and tutored her in 2006 at reed's tutorial school. we had this very brief conversation on how she was doing. she said "i'm stress now, since A-level is just around the corner. awu ah, sir tau? aku and zati kana offer scholarship."

me : wow, banar bah? congratz ih. bila tah u pigi?

ummi : zati saja kali, sal aku inda kana lapas leh my mother.

me : ih, sayang jua...scholarship mana?

ummi : ke Bradford.

those are some of our conversations contents. the point is, how glad i am to hear all these news that she mentioned. not to say that it is because of me that they succeed, just...my doa masa dulu tu rasanya telah dikabulkan.

i still remember how these girls struggled in their studies (especially math). they were not in the science class, they were in C class. they positive things that i could see from them is that, they want to improve themselves no matter what it takes. frankly, when the o-level was just about few days to go, both of these girls showed a lot of improvements in their math, whether they realize it or not.

oh yah, one more thing. my boss in reed's tutorial school once came to talk to me (in early 2006). "what did you do Mr Zimin? this year, our business went like boom. a lot of girls from puteri masna came here, registered their name, and with one condition lagi tu. they want you to tutor them! i even asked one of the girls, why Mr Zimin? She said, you got this special formula that makes math easy." How embarassing, but at the same time, felt honoured since these girls put their trusts in me.

this year is the first puasa and raya experience for asyfa. of course lah, last year during the same time, he was still in his womb. since the ramadhan holidays took off early (about two weeks before raya), both me and my wife took this golden opportunity to monitor asyfa 24/7, and noticed some changes and improvements shown by him. the most remarkable ones was his ability to crawl. yup, before this, he could only sit and crawl with assistance, now he is able to do it by himself.

by the time i am reporting this, asyfa is already 9 months old. just yesterday, asyfa got his first two milk teeth (CONGRATULATIONS!!!), and of course the side effect? he got fever, high possibility due to the pain of the teeth pointing out of the gum.

last day of the school, our school organized the function as stated in my title. UNFORTUNATELY...i was not there, for the whole session. i guess it was not my day. really...

semangat dah pakai baju melayu, i even brought my trustworthy 350d fully charged and cleared cf so that i would be able to shoot as many pix as possible. on my way, my car macam ada bunga2 kan buat hal, but i ignored. when i was in jalan jerudong, just after the jerudong prison, the car suddenly stalled. i tried to reignite the engine, didn't work. so i pressed the emergency light button, also didn't work. what happen?

i tried to call 247, nobody picked up. after numerous attempts, i had decided to just call the towing service then. at about 8 am, the towing truck came, and there we go, on our way to the workshop in gadong. the mechanics there know me very well, so i didn't have any problem talking and negotiating with them. they said it was just my alternator's belting that went loose, so the battery didn't charge, and that is why the battery gone flat. at about 9 am, all the works were done, and without even a cent that i took out, there i go, on my way to the school.

no, the story doesn't end there. as i was approaching the traffic light at lambak kanan, there was this noise, very annoying noise coming from my car's engine hood. i smelt some kind of rubber burning. suddenly, there was this noise, then...PRAP!!! the belting of the alternator dropped on the road. not taking any chance, i had decided to return to the workshop and asked them to replace all the belting in the engine. and there i go, until 1130 am, waiting for my car to be "cured". kan balik sekolah, not really alang-alang, tapi macam ingau, karang balik lagi semula sakit kereta ni nda mau start tangah2 jalan, so i had decided to go home.

really sad...(well...don't know what to say).

actually, there are a lot of his pix in my hd, still unprocessed. Insya-Allah, next week he will turn 8 (months). a lot of changes we have observed during his 7th month, especially the special word he said to me whenever he sees me and his mother. he is able to say "babah" and "mama" loud and clear. and the one thing that i enjoyed? now i am able to play with him a lot of the time since he responded very well to pee-a-boos and teases. can't wait to see him to be able to walk, although i heard a lot of advices that, once they are able to walk, it will be another level of headache. haha...

late again huh...well, actually i was having a doubt whether to share these pix or not, since i didn't shoot a lot during that time. i was busy with the laptop, making sure everything went smooth with the slides shown. i did manage to shoot some, and they are not in a very good condition. here are just some of the survivors.

ryte, he is in his 6th month age. two weeks ago, we held this Majlis Mandi Belawat, and we are looking forward to all of his pictures snapped by my colleague, who is also a very good educator and photographer. so for the mean time, my wife took the initiative to capture his behaviour during this age. haha...he really responded very well to all the callings, especially when he heard his name. he played a lot and enjoyed them. here are just some of his latest acts.

hmm...got the idea very last minute. just learnt how to add something cool to photos and videos using Adobe's collection. Just like this photo above, this guy got that flame on his hand and the aura right behind his shoulder. still rusty though.

by the way, i was planning to apply this idea for my next video. last year, i was doing the video on the chess warrior, so Insya-Allah this year, i will try to find the time to continue the series with the 6th warrior, whose task is to mess around with one of the CCA club in the school. which club is it? hehe...just wait. pray that i got all the time needed to do this.

1st may 2008 marked the 15th sports day of our school. some final events were held on that day such as 100m sprint, 200m and so much more. some fun games were also being organized for the teachers and parents, and the grand event was the tug-of-war between teachers and PTA members.

haaa...ni bukan kan angkat bakul. saja teringat soalan cepumas yang pernah ditanya oleh some of my students rah tempat tutorial school dulu. kan diingat tu, lucu tu ada jua, tapi kesian kan that student tu pun ada jua. she knew that ia memang inda seberapa kan math ani, so banyak soalan lah dia tanya.

then, out of nowhere, bercakap tia kan, "sir, cana kan sir pandai math ani?" hmm...terdiam kajap lah masa tu. i really don't know what to say. kalau kan diikutkan, i was not really good in math ani dulu sampailah ke form 3 (really, my math grade in BJCE was just credit, not distinction). because for me dulu atu kan, all subjects ani we need to memorize to survive. only after we were in form 4, after the first assessment, fikiran ani mula berfikir secara logik (nya org Brunei, baru tah kan start berakal berabis). rupanya math ani, bukan kan dihafal... math needs practice, the more the better. also, when you were doing the practice, you need to think of its logic. because believe me, maths is always logic.

from that moment, i always look forward for another assessment, and also new topics. the more challenging it is, the better. and that is why i took additional math as my option subject. well, it does give me an advantage. since additional math is like another level of math, our thinking skill pun improve. nya orang kan, mun udah biasa payah ani, soalan math biasa ani macam cakui ganya. haha...

so, students out there who wished to be good in math, i just have one advice.
DO THE EXERCISES, PRACTICES SAMPAI KAMU KELANGUAN.
ni banar ni...mun dah kelanguan tu kan, petanda baik tu. napa? cuba tah dulu, you will understand it. cheers

syukur kehadrat Allah Ta'ala, Asyfa semakin sihat. kalau dibandingkan sama masa ia selalu sakit tu kan, memang ketara perubahan Asyfa. lihat saja tah pipinya, makin tabam. haha...masa hari atu saja, ada Asyfa sakit mulut, nya orang kitani melatup. iatah kesian masa atu, inda mau minum susu, kan tidur pun inda mau. membari susah hati. so we took him to a private clinic, so kana bagi ubat lah. tapi, myself ni bukan jenis yang mudah pueh hati. the next day, i took him again at the ong sum ping. baik jua ubat ni sama, mun inda, gerenti dibom tu clinic private tu. hehe (macam banar saja).

few days ago, semasa sedang membelek2 buku latihan math lama, teringat tah pula kan prestasi my students masa first test ari tu. entah macamana kan, soalan tu memang gerenti sanang and jawapan pun ampai2 udah, pun banyak yang fail. then, terimbas pula my own prestasi dulu.

frankly, aku ni pun asalnya bukannya pandai sangat. ni kenyataan ni. however, yang membezakan saja ialah my will power. once i aim for something, i will try my very very best to achieve it. i still remember, masa PCE dulu (periksa darjah enam), i got very good grades. i always got the first place in the class masa tu. then, masa baru masuk form 1, we had this test. tup tup tup, dapat nombor 11 tarus. berkerut dahi tarus. i was telling myself, "tak boleh jadi ni. nampaknya, kawan2 dalam kelas ni bukan calang2. aku mesti berusaha kuat lagi."

since that day, i studied very hard. first, i aimed for the top 5 position for the next test. yes, i improved and gained the 3rd place. hmm, not bad. again, i looked forward for the next test, and this time i aimed for top 3. guess what, i got the 2nd place. and this was the position i was stucked to, since the top student atu masih lagi menggagahi her position. i tried again and again to beat her, masih lagi stucked with the 2nd place. i always looked forward for the next monthly test, dari form 1 sampai form 2 and tarus lah ke form 3. so, when did i beat her? masa BJCE (currently known as PMB). however, still i got the 2nd place jua. why? the first place went to my other friend. haiya...haha. walaubagaimanapun, puas hati lah pasal i got my revenge and mission accomplished. after that, when we were in form 4, i updated my own aim; to beat my friend atu.
what im sharing here is not intended to show that i am good. it is just, i strongly believe that most students nowadays are lacking in something in themselves, i.e. self confidence. yes, you really need it. if you want others to believe you, then believe in yourself first.

this is like, yg keberapa kali ye i'm involved in this flag waving ceremony? i thought it was going to last at least an hour, tup tup it took less than that. and due to this assumption, i didn't take the time to shoot as many as possible pix. haha...fortunately, i did manage to take some though.

this is a snake. (duh!!!) sempat lagi belajar biology tu, with all the explanations elaborated by one of the science teacher.

this morning, semasa sedang menjemur pakaian yg dah dicuci (of course...bantu isteri tu penting), ada some quotes yang terngiang-ngiang di telinga. bukan plg penting sangat, tapi i was just wondering...makin banyak dah parents yang milih anak masa ni ah. napa kan tu?

i know these parents (fathers to be specific), some time ago we had this conversation. dorang ni baru diturunkan rezeki untuk dapat anak, sekali kena anugerahkan anak perempuan. iatah dorang ni kan, merungut. "bini...inda berapa siok ih" what a shocking quote! i mean, so what kalau kana bagi anak bini? anak is still rezeki, anak is still our own blood, and more importantly, anak ialah AMANAH ALLAH. kenapa kan? (huh...i need some air)

ada lagi this father, sampai inda ia mau meduli anaknya ani, dari lahir sampai tah kan 2 tahun umurnya anak atu, baru tah meduli. pasal apa? malas kan meduli pasal anak atu bini2, and ia inda suka anak bini2, pasal ia mau anak laki2. lagipun, payah kan menjaga anak ani masa ia damit. WHAT AN IDIOT! i mean, he doesn't deserve to be called a father, or parent. i was very angry masa tu with his remark. however, i still got control of myself, and lastly i said to him,

"bini tani ani mesti dihargai, pasal ia jarih menjaga anak tani. bukan dari semenjak anak tani lahir, 9 bulan sebelum lahir udah pisan tu. masa lahir anak atu, lagi tia. GIVING BIRTH IS THE GREATEST PAIN HUMAN EVER EXPERIENCE. pasal atu tah, kena jaga bini ani, jaga anak ani apa pun jantinanya, laki kah, bini kah, sama jua anak tani. hargai pengorbanan bini ah. ani, udah inda belurih anak yang diharapkan, makin pal*i tah pulang laki ani. alasan pasal bukan yang dihajati. mun kan rasa kecewa ani, rasa kecewa tah rah diri sendiri. jangan anak bini jadi mangsa. amanah Allah bah tu! pikir sanang kah beranak ani? diri laki2 sanang ih, tau membuat ganya, yang sakitnya bini tani. pikirkan dih!"

since that day, this guy inda pernah betagur lagi with me. well, as if i care. memang spesis lelaki macam ni patut dihajar, inda tau bersyukur. from what i overheard, makin banyak dah ni laki2 yang jenis cani ani, yang milih kasih rah anak. awu, mun inda kana anugerahkan anak bah...wallahua'lam
